John William Boggs, 84, of Jonesborough, Tennessee, passed away on April 30, 2026. He was born on January 24, 1942, in Louisa, Kentucky, to the late Edgar and Marguerite Boggs.
John was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was a graduate of Marshall University and built a successful career as a Certified Public Accountant, working in finance within the steel industry and other manufacturing sectors. Beyond his professional accomplishments, John was a skilled handyman who dedicated his time and services to those in need throughout his community.
He was known for his generous spirit, unwavering faith, and serving others. John found great joy in volunteering at his church, bicycling, landscaping, reading, and most of all, spending time with his beloved family. His humor, kindness, and positive outlook on life left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
John is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Belinda Sturgill Boggs; his children, Melissa Boggs Turner (Craig) and John William Boggs, Jr. (Andrea); his grandchildren, Alexis Turner, Jacob Turner, Ella Boggs, Arrington Boggs; his nieces, Rachelle Shepherd, Nikki Cannatelli, Marti Marcum, Julia Boggs; and many extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Nick Boggs.
John will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered for his charitable heart, his willingness to help others, and his steadfast devotion to his family and faith.
A celebration of John’s life will be announced at a later date.
There are some people who come into your life and quickly become family. That was John Boggs.
From the moment we moved next door, John welcomed us with open arms and a heart bigger than life itself. He helped us finish an unfinished room in our home, loaned tools whenever we needed them, and would have given anyone the shirt off his back without hesitation. Every time I step outside, I can still hear his big, hearty voice saying, “Wellll hellooo there!” and it makes me smile.
John also had a special buddy in our dog, Gizmo. He would sneak him snacks, give him belly rubs, and spoil him every chance he got. That was just who John was " kind, generous, genuine, and full of love for the people and animals around him.
We truly could not have asked for better neighbors or better friends. Belinda, please know we are here for you through all of this. Anything you need, anytime.
We find peace in knowing that John is in Heaven doing all the things he loved most, lending a helping hand, working hard, and probably giving Gizmo snacks and belly rubs. He will be deeply missed and forever loved.

Truer words have never been spoken. He loved with an abundance mentality. Always offering his warm and congenial smile before imparting his wisdom upon you. I always loved my dear uncle John but especially after my father passed when I was just a child. I vividly remember the great comfort I took in my uncles time he invested in me. Small moments where I had all of his attention and he never once discouraged me or shared a negative outlook. Always positive and optimistic.
His overwhelming devotion to our savior had filled him up with the Joy of Christ and it was his special gift. To comfort, to encourage, and to always be faithful is my uncles legacy and I am so proud to also be a child of the King!!
Rest in Peace Uncle John. I will always carry a piece of you with me and stand up for what it means to be a strong yet humble Man and follower of Christ Jesus!!
God is my strength and my power and he maketh my way perfect. 2nd Samuel 22:23
He fought the good fight and finished his work, and I hope we all take great comfort that his earthly pains are over as he embraces our father and watches over us now. He will be missed but never forgotten.
Love you Aunt B. and Johnny and Missy and co. Reach out if I can be of service in anyway.

Neighbor, friend, handyman, comedian"you were all of these and so much more. You always had a smile on your face and a joke or kind word ready for anyone who needed it. Your kindness and selflessness touched so many lives. There truly was no one like you, John.
I pray that you are at peace with the Lord, watching over all of us and your family. I promise we will be there for Belinda and make sure she never feels alone.
You are deeply missed.

My family moved in next door to John and his sweet wife Belinda when I was 16 years old, I’m close to 27 now. There was never a day I saw John that he didn’t put a smile on mine or my kid’s faces. He will always be kept in my heart as one of the most genuine, sweetest men I have ever met. From leaving surprises on our doorstep, helping my family with absolutely anything he could think of, never missing a chance to wave or say hi, and watching all three of my kids grow over the years. John will be missed terribly and I hope I can raise my boy’s to be as kind and caring as I have always known him to be. To Belinda, the family, and friends I am so sorry- we are thinking of each and every one of you.

Oh Melissa! How we loved sharing a season of our lives being your parents neighbors. He looked out for us when Randy was working out of town before we joined him. He was a wonderful man. He loved your mom and you all so much! I remember before I knew you how they would talk about their grandchildren. May he rest in peace, sending love, prayers and comfort to you all and your sweet Momma. ❤️

My incredible brother-in-law, John William Boggs, now into the arms of Jesus, oh how we will miss him; his steadfast demeanor, unwavering spirit and that infectious laugh/giggle ?
He arrived with the upmost integrity, and (Micha 6:8) had to be surely on his mind at all times!
He has shown you mortal, oh what is good, and what does the Lord require of you?
1. To act justly
2. To love mercy
3. To walk humbly before your God
What an incredible pathway to leave for family/friends; a life exemplified by serving Jesus with such grace, tenacity and strength!
Power rendered unto him by the awesome holy spirit; power to heal, power to talk, to walk and power to save ? may you know this man called Jesus today ♥️
I am missing my bonus brother today, but oh we shall meet again; no more sickness, pain nor death and forever we shall be with the who died for us …. Jesus, Jesus …. the King of Kings ❣️

This is absolutely heartbreaking to hear. It would be very hard, if not impossible, to find a man as good-hearted and generous as John. He has been my next door neighbor since we moved in back in 2018. From the very beginning, he was just so warm and welcoming of my family and I to the neighborhood. Since then he was always asking if I needed any help with anything I was doing outside and became fast friends with our dogs, always referring to them as "his dogs." When our lab passed away unexpectedly a few years back, he was as heartbroken as we were.
As hard a loss as it is, I take great solice in knowing he was a true man of God and is in a much better place now. My heart and prayers go out to Mrs. Belinda and the rest of his family.
Rest easy, John. You will be truly missed by myself and everyone else that has ever had the blessing of knowing you. Please do me a favor and give Knox a good belly rub from me when you see him.
