Mr. Russell Douglas “Russ” Godsey, age 72, Jonesborough, was welcomed into heaven on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, by his parents, Martha Beals, Jack Godsey and his brother, David Godsey.

He was born in Johnson City TN on February 27, 1954.

Throughout his years he was an electrician and he served in the Navy for many years.

Russ was loved by all that knew him.

He leaves behind a wonderful son, Russell Dye (Ginger Dye); grandchildren, Marcus and Hunter Dye, Michaela McCusker; and many great grandchildren; daughter, Katherine Hardin; very special best friends, Alicia and Brandon Smith, Nellie Smith, Billie Callahan, and Makayla Fleming.

Dinners and cookouts at the house will never be the same. Go rest high buddy.

Memorial services will be conducted at 3:00 PM Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 pm Wednesday prior to the service.

Graveside services will be conducted at Mountain Home National Cemetery at a later date.

Dad I never really knew you as well as I wanted to I did the best everyday in your absence to try to become a good man I joined the United States Marine Corps to get my life started we met for a brief time but had a falling out which was pretty sad but we reconnected recently man I did what I could to help you get your benefits to the VA to improve your life and extend it I just feel like that at some point I must have failed somewhere because now you're gone and the little time we had was not enough I will miss you I hate that we didn't get to know each other well but one thing will never change I am your blood and I live on and I have children who have children so your legacy will live on forever Semper Fi rest well maybe we will meet again someday I love you your son Russ.
