Ms. Susan Alice Howell, age 61, of Kingsport, passed away unexpectedly at Holston Valley Medical Center on Monday, March 16, 2026.
She was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on September 8, 1964, to the late John Clinton Barbour Sr. and Carol Mathay Barbour. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Cathaleen Miller.
Susan was a warrior and a dedicated LPN. She adamantly fought for her patients and wanted the best for each of them. She spent many years in nursing, working at several hospitals, Four Oaks Healthcare Center, and many years at NHC in Johnson City. Susan served on the Nursing Board of Directors in Chattanooga. When she wasn’t working, she loved cooking, baking, hiking, and being in the mountains. Her dedication, huge heart and her ability to never forget anything will be missed.

A Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home from 2:00 to 4:00 PM.
My Aunt Susan was an incredible woman who touched the heart of everyone she met. As an LPN, she didn’t just care for peopleâ€"she truly loved and comforted them in ways that made a lasting difference. She had a kind soul, a warm presence, and a way of making everyone feel seen and valued. She will always be remembered for the love she gave so freely. She will be deeply missed and forever in our hearts.
