
Marilyn Vines Hawkins Tolliver of Johnson City, passed away at home on 23 Dec 2025.
Born 24 Dec 1936, Marilyn was the daughter of the late Geraldine Vines Hawkins Hyder & Judge Frank Watson Hawkins. She was also the big sister of the family with two younger brothers, the late David E. and Frank R. Hawkins.
Marilyn graduated from University High School and East Tennessee State University before becoming the mother of three daughters. While raising her three girls as a single mother, she was also busy as a day-care worker at Central Baptist and First Presbyterian churches and with individual families for many years in the community.
Marilyn kept her children entertained with her wonderful sense of humor, trips to the family farm in Jonesborough to ride horses and pick blackberries, and singing silly songs she would play on the accordion, banjo or guitar. She also occasionally played the recorder, piano and harmonica. She enjoyed visiting the beach, gathering with family and horse trail riding into her 80s.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her youngest daughter, Trudi Nan Tolliver (2.26.2019) and her grandparents Judge D.A. Vines & Mabel Jackson Vines and Professor E.E. Hawkins & Margaret Johnson Hawkins.
She is survived by her daughters Tori Lynn Tolliver of Jonesborough, and Lori Lee Tolliver-Jones (David) of Blacksburg, VA.; sister-in-law, Ann C. Hawkins (David E.), niece Jan H. Phillips (Russ), niece Heather Hawkins (Mike Tuffa), and nephew F. Watson Hawkins II (Kellie), and great nieces and nephew, Olivia Phillips, Wade Phillips (Muriel), Mathilda Hawkins and Ellery Hawkins.
The family would like to extend a special note of thanks to Karen Bare for her help during the last few months of Marilyn’s life and to Amelia of Amedisys Hospice Care for her care & guidance on this journey.
As a final kindness and to assist in furthering research for better medical care, Marilyn donated her body to the Quillen College of Medicine.
There will be a remembrance and celebration of life at a later date.
