David F. McCracken

09/14/2025

Mr. David Franklin McCracken, age 74, of Limestone, passed away at his home on Sunday, September 14, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, service, and family devotion.

He was born to the late Kenneth “Cubby” and Lillian McCracken, on July 26, 1951. David grew up with strong values of hard work, loyalty, and kindness. These qualities carried him throughout his life.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Carl and Mary McCracken and John and Nelle Franklin; two brothers-in-law, Dean Kinnick and Dale Shelton.

David proudly served his county in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. His time in service shaped him into a man of courage and resilience, and he never forgot the importance of honoring his fellow veterans. After his military service, David went on to work at East Tennessee State University, where he built lasting friendships and eventually retired after many dedicated years.

He was a family man and is survived by his son, Logan McCracken; daughter-in-law, Ashlee Johnson; stepchildren, Alyssa King and Lonnie Broyles; granddaughter, Karissa McCracken; grandson, Daniel Webb; sisters, Carolyn Kinnick and Linda Houser (Lee); several nieces, nephews, and extended family. Each of his family members held a special place in his heart, but nothing brought him more joy than the time he spent with his granddaughter, Karissa. Their bond was unbreakable, and his happiest moments were the simple ones, sharing stories, laughs, and memories with her by his side.

Beyond his family, David had passions that made him who he was. Anyone who knew David, knows that he loved Ice Cream. He was also a huge NASCAR fan; he rarely missed a race. Whether he was in front of the television or listening closely on the radio, race days were always special to him. He also enjoyed the quiet moments of life, time of reflection, conversation, and simply being surrounded by those he loved. David will be remembered as a devoted, father, grandfather, brother and friend.

Arrangements are incomplete but will be announced in the coming days.

The family asks that you honor David’s memory by cherishing your family, holding onto the things that bring joy and taking a moment to remember a man who gave so much of himself to others. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the McCracken family.
