Waunita Gwendolyn Bragg passed away peacefully at the Johnson City Medical Center on June 19, 2025, after a courageous and nearly 30-year-long battle with breast cancer. Waunita spent her final days in hospice care, with family by her side.
Waunita was born on May 12, 1950, at Allen’s Maternity Home in Wade, Maine, to her parents, Alton and Gwendolyn Bragg. She was raised on the New Dunn Town Road in Wade, and graduated from Washburn High School. Waunita worked most of her life serving others, doing work such as CNA and Home Care. Waunita lived in Wade, Crouseville, and Presque Isle in Maine, before moving to Johnson City, Tennessee, where she lived until her passing.
She had a green thumb and prided herself on keeping a well landscaped lawn, a fruitful garden, and beautiful flowers. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She traveled to Maine often to visit family and see the leaves turn color.
Waunita had a faith in God stronger than most and this was what she relied on during her long battle with cancer, never complaining of the pain or burden the disease brought.
She is survived by her daughter, Sonya Robbins and husband, Bruce of Yulee, Florida; her son, Rick Bragg and wife, Merry of Caribou, Maine; granddaughters, Cayla Guitierrez and husband, Jake of Florida, Keegan Hickey and husband, Rob of Florida, Stephenie Jo Bragg and fiancé, Seth Woodman of Fort Fairfield, Rilee Robbins of Texas, and Gwendolyn Bragg of Caribou, Maine; grandson, Matthew Bragg of Caribou, Maine. She leaves behind three great-grandchildren, Asher, Avery and Holly, all of Florida. Waunita is survived by her siblings, Trudy Clark and husband, Neil of Florida, Mildred Bennett of Wade, Merle Bragg and wife, Linda of Wade, Carroll Bragg and wife, Renee of Wade, Lois Benfield and husband, Sonny of North Carolina, and Phyllis Kelley and husband, Charlie of Wade; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers-in-law, Jim Goodine and Earl “Skip” Bennett.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 4:00 PM, Sunday, August 24, 2025, and Waunita’s home church, Abounding Grace Baptist Church, 1775 Old State Route 34, Telford, TN 37690.
A service in Maine will take place later this fall.
