Mr. John Ashley Sims, age 70, Jonesborough, went to be with the Lord Sunday, July 14, 2013, with his family around him, at the Johnson City Medical Center after a sudden, but courageous battle with bone cancer.

John is preceded in death by his parents, Fred Hugh Sims and Maurine Henry Sims. Loving survivors include the love of his life, Charlotte Jones Sims, his wife of 49 years, Christy Sims Osborne, daughter, and her husband, David, Jacob Bruce Osborne, grandson, one brother, Gordon Sims and wife, Teresa, several nieces and nephews, and lifelong friends, Vincent & Becky Keefauver, treasured friends, Larry & Bernice Guinn, and Mike Lacy.

Born in Knoxville, TN, John’s family moved to Jonesborough in 1952. He was a retiree of the Washington County Tax Assessor’s office with 26 years of service. John loved traveling with his wife Charlotte, and greatly enjoyed their vacation time to Montana, and other western states. He also loved fly fishing, hunting, and sailing. John especially cherished his grandson Jacob, and their times together on the John Deere tractor.

He was a member of Central Baptist Church.

A Celebration of Life services will be conducted 7:00 pm Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at the Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home with Dr. Michael S. Lacy officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 pm Wednesday prior to the service.

Interment services will be conducted 11:00 am Thursday, July 18, 2013 at Pleasant Valley Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Alan Sims, John D. Sims, Greg Jones, Gary Ray, Tim Davis, Zac Davis and Adam Davis. Honorary pallbearers will be Rex Jones, Larry Guinn, Vincent Keefauver and Scott Buckingham.
