Mr. Don D. Evans, age 86, of Jonesborough, passed away at the Johnson City Medical Center on Thursday, August 20, 2026.
He was born on May 7, 1940, to the late Harry and Bertha Evans, in Morristown, Tennessee.
Don retired from the Johnson City Press after 42 years of service. He was a Jack of all trades.
He was a member and former Deacon of Jackson Park Covenant Brethren Church.
Survivors include his wife, Jeannie Evans; daughters, Angela Harmon of Morristown and Shelley Sluder of Jonesborough; sister, Bonnie Jarnigan of Morristown; grandchildren, Chris Harmon (Tess) of Jefferson City, Matthew Harmon (Kenzie) of Morristown, and Alena Sluder of Jonesborough; great-grandchildren, Ellie Kay Harmon, Colt Harmon, and Noelle Harmon; sister-in-law, Susan Pate; nieces, Sarah Pate (Dustin Gingrow) and Megan Crumley (Will); great nephews, Leyton and Emory Crumley; great niece, Rosalyn Gingrow; several additional nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Celebration of Life Services will be held at 2:00 PM, on Sunday, September 6, 2026, at Jackson Park Covenant Brethren Church with Pastor Jeremy Dykes officiating.

Special thank you to the nursing staff on 3300 at the Johnson City Medical Center for their wonderful care of Don.
I worked with Don in the mid-80s at the Press-Chronicle. I was on the news desk, and went on to work at several other papers, and he was the best composing room boss that I ever worked with. He was very good at what he did and we got along great. We became best golf buddies. He was a really nice guy, and I was blessed to know him.

I'm so sorry to hear this. I worked with Don for many years at the Johnson City Press starting in 1978 out of high school. He was my 1st and best boss ever, friend, and i will always treasure the memories of Don, from our country cooking dinners at the Johnson City Press when it was garden time. To the many times during the worst snow storms ever he got me home and to work even though the snow was so bad, he always came through. ( the best boss ever) as everyone considered him to be. My thoughts and prayers go out to Jeannie and the family.

We were so sorry to hear of Dons passing I grew up around my cousin we were close in our younger days and my husband work with Don for many years he was a good friend, He always had a smile for everyone and a little chuckle of a laugh when talking, He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him, our deepest sympathy and prayers go out to all the family God be with each one during this time.
