Dale Thomas Lawrence

02/20/2026

Dale Thomas Lawrence, a man of great character, quick wit, professionalism, and acquired worldly knowledge, passed away on February 20, 2026, surrounded by his wife and son. Born in Jacksonville, Florida, on March 9, 1961, to Louie and Ruth Lawrence, Dale’s family relocated to Dothan, Alabama, where he graduated from Dothan High School in 1979. He was voted “Most Funny” in his class, a testament to his innate sense of humor and his lifelong love for sharing laughter with friends and family.

Dale’s professional journey began in high school, where he sold men’s suits and developed a natural gift for conversation and an appreciation for dressing for success. In 1985, he welcomed his son, Adam, into the world, becoming a proud father who instilled in his son the values of intelligence, humor, and hard work.

Over the years, Dale achieved remarkable success in sales and management, eventually leading him to Chicago, where he embraced the city’s vibrant culture. There, he married Joanna Mims, and they settled in Jonesborough, Tennessee, where they lived for two decades in the picturesque pastoral rolling hills. Dale and Joanna found joy in exploring the nearby Appalachian towns. Dale savored cooking delicious meals, horticulture, and reading about American history and stories of presidents.

Mr. Dale Lawrence’s life was evidence of his ability to balance these diverse traits, which propelled him to success and made him a captivating conversationalist. He embodied the words “Do good work and act like you’re somebody,” leaving an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to know him.

Dale is survived by his wife, Joanna Lawrence; his son, Adam Lawrence; his loving in-laws, Larry and Glenda Mims; his brother, Keith Lawrence; his nephew, Jake; his niece Holly; his beloved and spirited long haired Blue Russian cat, Moonshine; and many cherished friends and family members. A memorial service will be held in Dothan, Alabama, to honor his life and legacy in the Fall.

I was lucky enough to know Dale and work with him for over 10 years, never got to meet him in person just over the phone, text messages and video calls. He was always very cheerful and it was a pleasure to work with him. You will be missed my friend. See you on the other side.
