Mr. Vernon R. Bailey (Buvy), Jonesborough, TN, passed away Sunday, February 22, 2026, at Johnson City Medical Center.

Mr. Bailey was born in 1938 to Thomas E. & Clara Young Bailey in Lehigh Iowa. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Thomas (Bucky) Bailey and Claire (Spide) Bailey, both of Lehigh, Iowa.

He graduated from Lehigh School. He was a member of the United States air Force, having served in Korea.

Vernon was co-owner of Federal Fire Protection in Davidsonville, MD; having retired in 1999, at which time he relocated to Jonesborough.

He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Jonesborough.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Holtsclaw Bailey, Jonesborough; daughter, Diane Schorm, Denton, MD; grandson, James Schorm (Rose), Parkville, MD; granddaughter, Shelby Martin (Scott), Centerville, MD; three great grandsons, Gabriel, Schuyler, and Bennett of Parkville, MD; twin sister, Verna J. Houskin, Huxley, Iowa; and several nephews and nieces.

The family would like to extend a very special thank you to Vernon’s caregivers, Jessyka Colón, Christina Campbell, and the staff at CLC, Mountain Home, TN for the wonderful care they provided.

Graveside services will be conducted 3:00 PM, Monday, April 6, 2026, at Mountain Home National Cemetery.

There will be no formal visitation per his request.
