Mr. Herman Payne, age 86, Jonesborough, passed away Friday, October 13, 2023, at his residence.

Mr. Payne was born October 11, 1937, in Washington County, TN to the late Harce & Violet Payne. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Betty Payne.

He was a member of New Victory Baptist Church and was attending the drive-in church at University Parkway Baptist Church.

Mr. Payne retired from Burton Rubber after 25 years of service.

Survivors include a son, Mike Payne and wife, Sherry, Jonesborough; grandson, Jeff Payne and wife Ashley, Jonesborough; great-grandson, Oliver Payne; and several nephews and nieces.

The family will receive friends from 11:30-12:30 pm Monday, October 16, 2023, at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home and other times at the home of Mike & Sherry. Graveside services will follow the visitation Monday at New Victory Methodist Church Cemetery with Pastor Scott Thompson officiating.

Pallbearers will be Bill McCrary, Timothy Hilemon, Dustin Miller, Daniel Cantrell, Danny Adams, Rick Templeton, David Garst and Randy Cooper. The honorary pallbearer will be Curtis McGee.

Mike and family, I am so very sorry and saddened by the passing of your dad. He and your Mom was as mom always said that the most special and best neighbors that she had ever had. Please know that you all are in my thoughts and prayers and you will forever have cherished memories in your heart always. He will be always missed. God Bless and know that he is smiling and is loving being with his loved one again.

I attended Lamar high School and graduated in 1956 with Herman. I live in Houston Texas now but talked to him often and saw him at the reunions. He was a special Christian friend, always talked about his church and sent church pictures on Facebook of the motorcycle riders.
