Harold W. Loyd

08/13/2023

Psalm 91:16 - I will reward them with a long life and give them my salvation.

Harold W. Loyd, 98, went to be with the Lord on August 13, 2023.

He lived a blessed life, rich with family and friends. He was raised by Ralph W. and Catherine Loyd on a farm in New Victory along with ten siblings. He was well known in the Conklin and Lamar communities for his baseball playing abilities and his “knuckleball.” After school at Lamar, he married Mary Alice Sliger and raised two sons, William Dale (Pete) and Lynn Lloyd.

The farming background prepared him for the various trades he took on- butcher, ran multiple grocery stores, owned a concrete business with his friend, J.D. Conley, cattle trader, and car dealer. Through some friends, he became interested in go-cart tracks, so he opened a go-cart track in the early sixties across from his home near David Crockett High School. These various experiences gave him many friends to enjoy sharing his hobbies of card playing and his love of golf which he continued up until his nineties even scoring his fifth hole-in-one at the age of 87. He loved spending his time playing Rook at Pioneer Market and watching his team, the Atlanta Braves, play ball.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Mary Sliger Loyd, his son, William Dale (Pete) Loyd, grandson, Jason Dale Lloyd, and six siblings, Lethea Lloyd, Ruth Markwood, Evelyn Wasson, Wayne Lloyd, John Lloyd, Sherman (Den) Lloyd, Euel Lloyd, and Lester Lloyd.

Survivors include his son, Lynn Lloyd (Kathy), granddaughter, Kelly Lloyd Casey (Rob), great-granddaughters, Kelsey Lloyd and Emmalyn Casey, great-grandson, Austin Casey (Bailey), two sisters Norma Hillyer and Sue Ferguson, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and will be greatly missed.
A special thank you to his caregivers at Four Oaks Healthcare Center in Jonesborough for the care and kindness he was shown during his time there.

Funeral Services will be at 6:00 PM, Monday, August 21, 2023, at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home with Pastor Jeremy Dykes officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 PM, prior to the service. Graveside Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, August 22, 2023, at New Victory Baptist Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Rob Casey, Austin Casey, Lynn Lloyd, Gary Lloyd, Mike Ferguson, and Ethan Crawford.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Curt McGee, Pete McGee, Danny Mack Keys, Bill Honeycutt, David Christian and Paul from Crockett Corner.

Through his love of baseball, and his love of people, Mr. Loyd gave many misfit outcast young boys something to look forward to. I was one of those misfits, and sixty years later, I still remember, and am still grateful to have had him as a mentor. Rest in eternal peace my friend.

Kelly, Lynn & Family, You all are in our prayers. What a wonderful man, and how blessed we all were to have him in our lives for so long. I know he’s turning heads up there with his knuckle ball and drives right down the middle of those heavenly fairways! Love always, Will, Melissa, & the girls
