Mrs. Ila Jean Bacon, age 87, of Jonesborough, TN, passed away on Monday, August 14, 2023, at the Johnson City Medical Center, surrounded by her family.
Ila was born on September 5, 1935, to the late Walter and Atlanta Broyles. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Bacon Sr.; twin sister, Wilma Dean Dickey, sister, Mable Nelson; brother, James Russell Broyles; infant sister, Mary Ellen Broyles; granddaughter, Sarah Nicole Hicks; and son-in-law, Dennis Hicks.
She was a member of New Victory Baptist Church. She was a wonderful grandmother, a great farmer and never met a stranger.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Sandra Hicks; sons, J.R. Bacon and Dale Bacon (Debbie); grandchildren, Bobby Ray Hicks, Desiray Bacon, and Dalton Bacon; special friends, Pat Sims, Crystal Ball and Randall Hite; and many special nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 7:00 PM, Thursday, August 17, 2023, at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home with Pastor Tim Broyles officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 PM, Thursday prior to the service.
Graveside services will be conducted 11:00 AM, Friday, August 18, 2023, at Liberty Cemetery.

I remember stopping by Ila’s home when I was out looking up the Bacon cousins, a very kind woman who could have turned me away . She is now at rest with Ray.
