Mrs. Mary Josephine Rhodes Ayers, age 88, of Johnson City, passed away on Wednesday, August 9, 2023, at her home surrounded by her family.

Mary was born on June 30, 1935, in Scott County, Virginia to the late Mosby and Ruth Helen Rhodes. She was the oldest daughter and helped raise her 9 brothers and 9 sisters. Mary retired from North Side Hospital where she worked in dietary.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond E. Ayers, Sr; her daughter, Diana Lynn Ayers; several brothers and sisters.

Survivors include her daughter, Suzan Carol Ayers (Herb); sons, Raymond Eugene Ayers, Jr. (Deborah) and Wayne Earnest Ayers; grandchildren, Scotty Lee Breeden and Jacqueline Diane Ayers Shade; great-grandchildren, Alexander Thomas Shade and Allison Janell Shade; several brothers and sisters.

Funeral Services will be at 11:00 AM, Saturday, August 12, 2023, at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home with Pastor Terry Jones officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, prior to the service. A Graveside Service will follow at Fairview Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.
