Gerald "Jerry" Jones

07/11/2023

For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes. Romans 1:16

Gerald (Jerry) Jones went home to be with Jesus on July 11, 2023, at the age of 83. He was a native of Erwin but lived in Johnson City. Jerry was the son of the late Ernest and Elizabeth Jones. He was preceded in death by a brother, Charles.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife of 35 years, Kathryn Lyle Jones, two daughters, Lori Callahan (Josh), Julie Wilson, stepson William Honeycutt (Melissa). Grandchildren Ethan Smith, Olivia Smith, Brycen Callahan, Alex Honeycutt, Ashlyn Honeycutt, Mia Martinez. Brother Harold (Katherine), sister Nancy Lowe, and sister-in-law Suzanne Lawson.

Jerry graduated from UCHS in Erwin and ETSU in Johnson City. He worked for the FBI in Washington, DC, Superior Hone in Erwin, then retired from Eastman Chemical Company after 25 years of service. He served six years in the Army Reserves and was the Company Bugler at Fort Jackson, SC.

Jerry was an amateur artist, enjoyed scuba diving, and was an avid runner. He participated for many years in the Senior Olympics as a swimmer. He and Kathy raised miniature show horses for several years and used “Sunshine” as a therapy horse and “Lily,” their therapy dog, visiting local nursing homes.

He was a member of Central Baptist Church, Johnson City, where he was a member of the Ted Beach Sunday School class, usher, and a member of the Joy Choir. He and Kathy enjoyed traveling domestically and abroad and made several mission trips to Mexico serving the Vine and Branches Ministry. They were members of the Emmaus Community.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Central Baptist Church or your favorite charity. Jerry donated his body to the Anatomical Gift Program at the Quillen College of Medicine. There will be no graveside service. A Celebration of Life service will be held in the near future.
