Mr. James “Jim” David Byers, Sr. age 78, Gray, died peacefully at his home surrounded by his family, Monday, September 11, 2017 following a brief illness.
Mr. Byers was born in Washington County and the son of the late Frank & Frances Sliger Byers. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth “Pat” Diane Garland, nieces, Teresa “Susie” VanHoy and Kim Dalton, grandparents, Willard & Laura Sliger and Vince & Susie Byers.
He attended Hale’s Chapel Christian Church.
Mr. Byers was a United States Army Veteran. He retired from Rainbo Bakery with 25 plus years of service.
He enjoyed gardening and sharing his vegetables, spending time on the farm with Jimmy, David and Ronnie, and his mornings with ‘The Morning Breakfast Gang” at McDonald’s in Gray.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Freda Hall Byers, Gray; son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy & Cathy Byers, Gray; daughters, Carolyn Grindstaff, and Crystal Leach, both of Johnson City; grandchildren, David Byers (Beverly), Chuck Whitson and Heather Buck (Trey); great-grandchildren, Aleah Byers, Laurel Buck, Aspen Greybeal and Shawn Whitson; sister, Judy West (Bill); sister-in-law, Joyce Hall; and several nephews and nieces.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to his nurses and caregivers from Amedisys Hospice Care.
Funeral services will be conducted 7:00 pm Thursday, September 14, 2017 at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home with Minister Randall Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 pm Thursday prior to the service.
Interment services will be conducted 11:00 am Friday, September 15, 2017 at Washington County Memory Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Byers, David Byers, Howard Jamerson, Allen Buckingham, Roy Jones and Dennis Robbins. Honorary pallbearers will be Luke West, Johnny Shadden, Dean Crumley, Ronnie Lane, Kip Sanders and “The Morning Breakfast Gang”.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hales Chapel Christian Church 280 Hales Chapel Rd. Gray, TN 37615.
