Mr. George Franklin Slagle, age 80, Jonesborough, passed away Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at Christian Care Center.
Mr. Slagle was born in Washington County and son of the late John A. & Grace Ball Slagle.
He was a member of Limestone United Methodist Church.
Mr. Slagle retired from Rainbo Baking Company in 1993 after 33 years of service. He started out as a route salesman and progressed thru the ranks to become Vice President. His career took him to Dallas, Texas, Fort Smith, Arkansas, Kansas City, Kansas, Jackson, Tennessee, Augusta, Georgia, Columbia, South Carolina and back home in 1979. He loved people and enjoyed helping his friends and neighbors. He was affectionately known as “the Mayor” in his neighborhood.
Survivors include his wife, Janice Slagle, Jonesborough; son, Randall Slagle and wife Marti, Clarksville, TN; daughter, Vicki Essick, Greer, SC; grandchildren, Christopher Hill (Danielle) Anderson, South Carolina, Lauren Hill Mastin, Charlotte, NC, David Hill, Greer, SC, Jennifer Hill, Columbia, SC, Randy Slagle, Clarksville, TN, Kaleigh Slagle, Clarksville, TN; great-grandson, Forest Mastin, Charlotte, NC; sister, Glenna Barkley (Charles); brothers, Bobby Slagle (Carolyn) and Johnny Slagle (Maria); and several nieces, nephews and many friends.
The family would like to thank all the doctors involved in the care of George, especially Dr. Kevin Sweet and Dr. El Bazouni; also thanks to Amedisys for their compassionate care and Christian Care Center for their care.
Funeral services will be conducted 7:00 pm Thursday, June 30, 2016 at Limestone United Methodist Church with Pastor Steven Spell officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 pm Thursday
Interment services will be conducted 11:00 am Friday, July 1, 2016 at Sulphur Springs Cemetery with Pastor Donna Waddle officiating.
Pallbearers will be Christopher Hill, David Hill, Jeff Waddell, Roger Ellis, Brian Freeman and Michael Barkley. Honorary pallbearers will be Martin Anglin, Jim Williams and the men of Limestone United Methodist Church.
