Arthur Shipley

Mr. Arthur Robert “Hubert” Shipley, Jr., age 89, Jonesborough, passed away Sunday, January 12, 2014 at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center.

Mr. Shipley was a native of Washington County and son of the late Arthur Robert & Mary Mariah Knight Shipley. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Warner Shipley and J.W. Shipley and four sisters, Ann Miller, Ruth Larue, Pearl Potter and Francis Harrison.

He was of the Christian faith. He served the community as one of the early members of the Johnson City Rescue Squad.

Mr. Shipley was a United States Army Veteran having served in the 12 82nd Engineering Battalion in Europe and Philippines, in World War II. He retired from Clayton Realty Company, in Winter Park, Florida.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred D. Shipley, Jonesborough; three sons, Ronnie Joe Shipley, Jonesborough, Mike and Teresa Shipley, Orlando, FL and Jeffery and April Shipley, Edgewater, FL; one daughter, Georgeanna “Penny” and Darrel Roberts, Jonesborough; 8 Grandchildren; Amy Parker, Debbie Hensley, Keith Shipley Jr., Mary Dowell, Matt Shipley, Craig Shipley, Darrel Roberts Jr. and Michelle Shipley, 13 great-grandchildren; and one great great grandchild, and one sister, Doris Fisher, Jonesborough.

Funeral services will be conducted 8:00 PM Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at Union Christian Church, 3639 Cherokee Rd. Jonesborough with Pastor Charles Fitzsimmons and Rev. Josh Edens officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 6:00-8:00 PM Tuesday prior to the service.

Interment services will be conducted 11:30 am Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at Mountain Home National Cemetery. Those wishing to attend the graveside services are ask to meet at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home by 11 am to go in procession to the cemetery.

Pallbearers will be family & friends.
