Ruby Irene Archer Dietrich

Mrs. Ruby Irene Archer Dietrich, age 93, Jonesborough, passed away Friday, December 27, 2013 at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center.

Mrs. Dietrich was born June 11, 1920 in Emerson, Iowa and daughter of the late Elijah W. & Ruby May Sifford Archer. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Edward Joseph Dietrich, two brothers, George Harold Archer and Thomas Dale Archer, brother-in-law, Broadus Davidson and two nieces, Sarita Archer and Sarah Maxwell.

She and her husband lived in Pittsburgh, PA for many years before retiring to Jonesborough in 1973.

She was a 1938 graduate of Sulphur Springs High School and in 1946 was Burley Bowl Queen.

She was a World War II Army Veteran serving in the Women’s Army Medical Corps in Texas. She was proud of her military career. In 1997 the US Post Office at Mountain Home honored her by letting her unveil the Commemorative Women in Military Postage Stamp.

Mrs. Dietrich was the oldest member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Survivors include a sister, Louise Archer Davidson, Louisville, KY; sisters-in-law, Martha Archer and Katherine Archer, Jonesborough and Eleanor Dietrich, Pittsburg; nieces and nephews, Ron & Betty Archer, Kenny & Gail Archer, Janice & Phil Weaver, Debbie & Wayne Moore, Linda & Rick Maxwell, Judy & Tim Harris, Greg Davidson, Vickie & Sam Shipley, Elaine McHugh, Bobby Dietrich; and several great nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of the VA Medical Center for their wonderful care of Aunt Ruby.

The family will receive friends from 2:00-4:00 PM Sunday, December 29, 2013 at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home and other times at the home of sister-in-law, Katherine Archer, 268 Chestnut Grove Church Rd. Jonesborough.

Mass of Resurrection will be conducted 12:00 PM Monday, December 30, 2013 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Peter Iorio officiating.

Interment services will follow at Mountain Home National Cemetery with military honors.

Pallbearers will be her nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim & Lou Cartwright, Bob & Kathy Workman, Betty Ryans, Johnny Sturgill and Lillian Long.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Mary’s Council of Catholic Women 2211 East Lakeview Dr. Johnson City, TN 37601.
