George M. Light

Mr. George M. Light, age 84, Jonesborough, passed away Thursday, May 23, 2013 at the Johnson City Medical Center after a short illness.

Mr. Light was born in Greene County, Tennessee on March 29, 1929 and lived most of his life in Washington County.

He was a member of First Baptist Church, Jonesborough and had served as Deacon for seven years at Sulphur Springs Baptist Church

He was a 50 year member of Sinking Creek Lodge #575.

Mr. Light was employed by Mead Paper in 1947 where he was in Quality Assurance Department for 47 years. He was active in United Steel Workers of America, where he served as Trustee, Vice President and Committeeman for 19 years.

Mr. Light was a United States Army Veteran having served from 1951-1952 during the Korean Conflict.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Myrtle Mae Light, father, William Barton Light and sisters, Patsy Dickens and Louise Light.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia (Good) Light, Jonesborough; sisters, Linda Painter and Lawanda Dickerson, both of Fall Branch; brother, Jack Light and wife Joanne, Kingsport; sister-in-law, Irene Powell, Greeneville; and several nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to express their thanks and appreciation to the doctors, nurses and caregivers on the 5200 wing of the Johnson City Medical Center

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 pm Sunday, May 26, 2013 at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home with Dr. James Harrison and Pastor Joel Cook officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30-2:00 pm Sunday prior to the service. Entombment will follow at Washington County Memory Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Roger Dickerson, Johnny Dickens, Steve Painter, Rusty Dickens, John Powell, Jeff Powell, Roy Jones and Larry Good. Honorary pallbearers will be Ron Crain, Roger Housewright, Richard Webb, Dr. Charles Famoyin and Dr. James Hansen.
