Mrs. Doris Ann Cope, age 80, Watauga, passed away Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at her residence surrounded by her family and holding her husband’s hand.

Mrs. Cope was born in Knoxville, TN and daughter of the late Charles & Nannie Pressley Helmboldt. She was a retired teacher and involved in volunteer work through Contact Helpline, FISH Pantry, Planned Parenthood and at the Melting Pot. Doris and Dwight led Human Sexuality Workshops for teenagers and their parents in various churches for 25 years. She was a former member of Middlebrook Pike United Methodist Church in Knoxville, First United Methodist Church in Johnson City and a current member of First Presbyterian Church in Elizabethton.

Survivors include her loving husband, Dwight Arnold Cope, Watauga; daughter, Danya Cope, Watauga; daughter, Dawn McDaniel and her husband, Dave McDaniel, Watauga; grandsons, David McDaniel and Caleb McDaniel, and Caleb’s wife, Solange McDaniel.

Memorial services will be conducted at First Presbyterian Church in Elizabethton, Tennessee from 2-4 pm on Saturday, March 16 and Middlebrook Pike United Methodist Church in Knoxville from 2-4 pm on Sunday, March 17.
