Mr. Edward Nobles “Little Ed” Matthews, Jr. age 92, Johnson City, passed away Thursday, March 7, 2013 at the Lakebridge Healthcare Center.

Mr. Matthews was a native of Limestone, Tennessee and son of the late Edward Matthews, Sr. and Maude Shanks Matthews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Matthews was also preceded in death by one brother, John Matthews and two sisters, Margaret Martin and Lois Reeser.

He was of the Methodist faith.

Mr. Matthews graduated from Washington College Academy in 1940 where he played basketball and later played semi pro-basketball. He was a United States Army Veteran and a retired Bridge Contractor.

He enjoyed bowling, playing rook, and shooting pool.

Survivors include two sons, Edward Matthews III and wife Cherie, Johnson City and Sam Jones and wife, Joyce, Nashville; two daughters, Linda Bishop, Johnson City and Kay Davis and husband, Trenton, Butler; grandchildren, Christy Fellers, Heather Wells, Alison Crowe, Celeste Crowe, Michael Davis, Diane Davis Ashe, Jacob Jones, Joshua Jones and Jonathan Jones; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ida Fanduzz, Johnson City and Virginia Glaze, Limestone; former wife and friend, Mary Kay Matthews; and several nephews and nieces.

The family will receive friends from 2:00-4:00 pm Sunday, March 10, 2013 at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date.
