Mrs. Alma Hathaway, age 86, Johnson City, passed away Tuesday, January 1, 2013 at Courtyard Assisted Living.

Mrs. Hathaway was born in Elizabethton, the daughter of the late Isaac & Rosa Sparks Phillips. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hathaway was also preceded in death by two brothers and five sisters.

She was a member of University Parkway Baptist Church. She was a registered nurse, who received her training as an Army Nurse Cadet at Baroness Erlanger Hospital during World War II.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Steve & Gail Hathaway, Vonore, TN and Mitch & Karen Hathaway, Johnson City; one sister, Lucy Landers; grandchildren, Michelle Hathaway, Melissa Bailey, both of Jonesborough, Josh Hathaway, Elizabethton and Andrew Hathaway, Knoxville; great-grandchildren, Logan Bailey, Conner Bailey, Tanner Bailey, all of Jonesborough, Blake Hathaway and Jude Hathaway, both of Elizabethton; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted 7:00 pm Thursday, January 3, 2013 at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home with Rev. Brian Nulf officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 pm Thursday prior to the service.

Interment services will be conducted 10:00 am Friday, January 4, 2013 at Sparks Family Cemetery, Elizabethton.

Pallbearers will be Josh Hathaway, Andrew Hathaway, Tim Bailey, Wes Whaley, Matt Martin and Will Martin.
