The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

Mr. Robert Gene Davenport Sr., age 74, Jonesborough, went to be with our Lord, Sunday, September 2, 2012 at Bristol Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Davenport was a Washington County native and son of the late Walter and Ollie Mae McIntosh Davenport. He was also preceded in death by six brothers and sisters.

He was a member of Cherokee Mountain Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Earline Hensley Davenport, one son Robert “Bobby” Davenport Jr., two daughters Wilma Davenport and Jeanie Devore (Kenneth); grand children, Brandon Devore, Carter Devore, Haleigh Devore, Makayla Davenport and Hunter Davenport; one brother Cecil Davenport; four sisters Mary Davenport, Vickie Arms, Faye Jones and Betty Bahaman; several nieces and nephews.

He was a very loving husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed.

The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00 pm Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow at Cherokee Mountain Baptist Cemetery with Rev. Steve Wilson and Rev. Mike Alexander officiating. A celebration of life service will follow at the home of the daughter, 1176 Hidden Valley Dr. Jonesborough.

Pallbearers will be Kenneth Devore, Dwayne Hensley, Mike Clark, Robert Davenport, Jr., Kenny Whaley, Kenneth Whaley, Danny Osborne and Robbie Hensley. Honorary pallbearers will be Cecil Davenport and Terry Britt.
